Sasnovich Stuns Ostapenko

Belarus’s Aliaksandra Sasnovich is off to a brilliant start in Ostrava as she stunned the eighth seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-2, 6-2. She handed the in-form Latvian a shock defeat on the back of a 77% first-service win rate.

Building on her career-best season, Sasnovich is already 35-18, outperforming her previous best season in 2018 (26-22).

Now ranking World No. 31, the 28-year-old is well on track to finish inside the top 30 and possibly reach another singles final.

Her runner-up feat in Melbourne Summer Set and the Cleveland Open are among her highlights. Aliaksandra also reached the fourth round of the Roland Garros and Miami Open, beating the likes of Daria Kasatkina, Emma Raducanu, and Angelique Kerber en route.

Rybakina Moves Past Keys

Current Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina started her campaign with a three-set win over USA’s Madison Keys.

The match lasted a little over two hours and saw the Kazakh win with 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, hitting seven aces and winning an impressive 78% of the points behind the first serve.

Her overall record is also similar to Sasnovich’s; she is now 36-18 and keen to make up for her first-round loss in Tokyo.

As for her highlights, in addition to the title run at SW19, Rybakina was also the finalist in Adelaide International and most recently, Slovenia Open. The World No. 26 also reached the latter rounds in Indian Wells and Cincinnati.

Rybakina v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

While Rybakina is the odds-on favourite, we cannot underestimate Sasnovich here. After all, she is having a good season and is well-experienced with a healthy record against the top 20 on the circuit.

An upset is certainly on the cards and considering Aliaksandra’s much higher odds, she makes for a brilliant underdog bet. On the safer side, this can be a long affair.
