Number five seed Daria Kasatkina is off to a good start in Ostrava as she beat Emma Raducanu 7-5, 6-4.
The 25-year-old Russian is the current World No. 11 and has improved her seasonal record to 38-17. It has been a career-best spell for her, which also took her to the No. 9 spot in August for a short while.
Kasatkina was particularly impressive in the last few months as she picked up titles in San Jose and Granby. Apart from this, she also reached the semifinal in the Italian Open and French Open.
These results, however, were also marked by erratic bouts of losses; Daria fell in the first round in the US Open, Cincinnati Open, and Rogers Cup.

Alexandrova, Poised to Match Kasatkina
Like Kasatkina, Ekaterina Alexandrova is also enjoying quite a season herself. She is now 33-16, following her impressive three-set win over former world number one Victoria Azarenka in three sets.
The 27-year-old is the current World No. 21 – a career-best ranking for her. She has a fair bit of wind in her sails – having won the Korea Open most recently by beating Jelena Osaptenko in the final.
It was her second title of the season – the other being the Rosmalen Championships, where she had upset Veronika Kudermetova and Aryna Sabalenka on her road to the trophy.
Although Ekaterina couldn’t win more than one match in any of the four tournaments between the two titles, she remains a formidable opponent. Earlier, she also reached the semis in Madrid and Charleston.
Kasatkina v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip
Kasatkina is the odds-on favourite, but Alexandrova’s current form and overall season put her on the same ground as her compatriot. This is going to be a tight, exciting match that can just as likely swing either way.
