Parks, in her Maiden WTA Quarterfinal

21-year-old Alycia Parks is having her moment in Ostrava this week as she is positioned superbly for a breakthrough on the WTA Tour.

Starting as a qualifier, she first beat the likes of Oksana Selekhemeteva and Anna-Lena Friedsam in straight sets to reach the main draw. In the first round, she knocked out the former world number one Karolina Pliskova 6-0, 7-6(3) in a towering display of athleticism, strokes, and ingenuity.

In the next round, Parks defeated the current World No. 7 Maria Sakkari 5-7, 7-5, 7-5.

This was only her fifth WTA main-draw win – and second on the hard court. Her previous such win of the season came in Berlin, where she beat Qinwen Zheng in the first round before bowing out to Ons Jabeur next.

Alycia is the current #144 with a tally of 23-25. Earlier in the season, she also took home the runner-up silverware from a couple of ITF events in the US.

Krejcikova Gets a Rest Day

Home favourite Barbora Krejcikova is off to a comfortable start in Ostrava as she beat Shelby Rogers 6-2, 6-2 in round one.

She was slated to play Belinda Bencic next, but the Swiss withdrew, giving the Czech a comfortable walkover into the quarters.

She arrived in Ostrava after winning her first title of the season in Tallinn; her journey there saw her beat the likes of Ajla Tomljanovic, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Bencic, and Anett Kontaveit.

Barbora is now #23 in the singles ranking and doubles #2; in the latter, she won three major titles with Katerina Siniakova to maintain her dominance there.

That said, Krejcikova has visibly struggled on the singles circuit owing to her injury; she has fallen to several lower-ranked players like Nao Hibino, Xiyu Wang, Diane Parry, Marta Kostyuk, and Aleksandra Krunic.

Krejcikova v Parks Prediction and Tip

This is going to be a good match. Krejcikova is the favourite here, but Parks has several precedents to follow and leapfrog her adversary into the semis. An upset is on the cards, and with Parks at high odds, she is a bet worth considering.
