Krejcikova Ends Parks’ Run

Barbora Krejcikova is finishing the season on a very string note. After winning the Tallinn Open last week, the Czech has now reached the semifinals in Ostrava.

Krejcikova ended qualifier Alycia Parks’ stunning run in the tournament with a straight sets win in the quarterfinals on Friday.

The first set was a very close affair. After both players traded an early break, the set was decided in a tight tiebreaker. Krejcikova missed out on a set point, then saved one, before converting a second set point and taking a one-set lead.

In the second set, too, Krejcikova broke early but Parks broke back immediately. Krejcikova however broke a second time in the set to take the match 7-6 (9-7), 6-3.

Krejcikova, who beat Annett Kontaveit in Tallinn last week, is on a seven-match winning streak. She won her opening round match against Shelby Rogers 6-2, 6-2 and got a second round walkover against sixth seed Belinda Bencic.

The world no. 23, who was also a finalist in Sydney, will be looking to reach a third final of the season.

Rybakina Knocks Out Kvitova

Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina reached a fourth semifinal of the season with a straight sets win over Pera Kvitova in the quarterfinals on Friday.

After having to come back from a set down to win her first two rounds, the Kazakh player will be happy to have finished off the last eight match in straight sets. The world no. 26 edged out Kvitova in a closely fought tiebreak in the first set and then got the solitary break in the second to win the match 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

Rybakina had beaten Madison Keys 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round and then scored a comeback win over Aliaksandra Sasnovich, beating the Belarusian 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 7-5.

The Kazakh will be looking to reach her fourth final of the season. She won the Wimbledon title and finished runner-up in Adelaide and Portoroz.

Krejcikova v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

Krejcikova is on a seven-match winning streak and has won six of those matches in straight sets. Rybakina has been consistent this year but has been stretched by her opponents in all the three matches that she has played in Ostrava. Expect a three-setter with Krejcikova advancing.
