Top seed Iga Swiatek is the only seed remaining in Ostrava. The World no. 1 defeated former junior doubles partner Caty McNaly in the quarterfinals on Friday to advance to the final four stage.
Swiatek, who had a first round bye, had advanced to teh last eight stage after her Round of 16 opponent Ajla tomljanovic had retired from the match while trailing 5-7, 2-2.
Swiatek needed an hour and 55 minutes to battle past the World no. 151, 6-4, 6-4. The Pole saved 9 of 11 break points in the match and converted 4 of 10 to oust the American, with who she had won the French Open junior doubles title in 2018.
With the win, Swiatek is now 59-7 in 2022. The incredible season has seen her win seven titles, including two majors (the French Open and the U.S. Open) and four WTA 1000 titles and one WTA 500 title.
The 21-year-old is chasing her 11th career title and her eighth this year. She is playing for the first time since her U.S. Open triumph and therefore goes into the semifinals on the back of nine consecutive victories. Can she keep charging towards an eighth title in 2022?

Alexandrova Edges Past Martincova
After an up-and-down contest, Ekaterina Alexandrova marched into the semifinals by beating Terezza Martincova in a three-set contest on Friday.
Alexandrova dominated the first set by breaking the local hope thrice, but she conceded the only break of the second set early to allow Martincova to draw level.
In the third set, the 27-year-old Russian once again took charge of the contest after both players held their first serve, Alexandrova ran away with consecutive games to win the match 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
Alexandrova had also won her opening round match in three sets, beating Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. In the next round, the Russian had upset the fifth seed and compatriot Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 7-6 (7-1).
Alexandrova herself is on an eight-match unbeaten run. She had come into the tournament as the Korea Open champion, which she won by beating Jelena Ostapenko in the final.
The World no. 21 is 35-16 in 2022. She will be playing in a fifth semifinal of the season with hopes of reaching a third final. She was also a champion in ‘s-Hertogenbosch earlier this year.
Swiatek v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip
It’s a matchup between two players on hot streak, but Swiatek will be the favourite to halt the Russian’s unbeaten run. She has been outstanding throughout the year and will be hard to stop. Expect the Pole to progress.
