Donna Vekic v Karolina Pliskova Head to Head
The two ladies have quite a bit of rivalry behind them. Pliskova leads by 6-1, last beating Vekic in Montreal in 2021 in three sets.

In a final push on the 2022 WTA Tour, Donna Vekic started her campaign in San Diego with a resounding 7-6(3), 6-1 win over the fifth seed Maria Sakkari in the opener.
The 26-year-old Croat started as a qualifier and dispatched the likes of Elizabeth Mandlik and Lauren Davis in straight sets to reach the main draw.
Donna is hoping to turn around what has been a largely disappointing season, with a couple of quarterfinal stints in Birmingham and Tallinn being her two big highlights. In the former, she dismissed the likes of Coco Vandeweghe and Catherine McNally, while in the latter, she beat Shuai Zhang.
Vekic, a former top 20 player, is now ranking #77, with her tally at 20-18. She is equipped and well-experienced, having beaten several big guns over her career.

Pliskova Moves Past Dolehide
World No. 22, former number one, Karolina Pliskova beat Caroline Dolehide 6-3, 6-4, to kickstart her campaign in San Diego.
After battling injury and the subsequent recovery in the early season, it has been a long, slow road to the top for the Czech. In fact, it wasn’t until the US Open swing that we saw her play with some consistency when she reached the semis in Toronto and the quarterfinal in the US Open.
At the same time, Pliskova has been in erratic form; she lost to Petra Martic in Tokyo in round two. Most recently, she was beaten by the American youngster Alycia Parks at her home tournament in Ostrava in round one.
Of course, compared to Vekic, Karolina has a far superior pedigree stretching across 32 WTA career finals. But will that make up for her inconsistency?
Pliskova v Vekic Prediction and Tip
The match can go either way. Pliskova has the psychological advantage owing to her massive 6-1 lead and silverware collection but Vekic is well-poised to spoil the party. Expect an entertaining affair.
