An aggressive Andrey Rublev moved into the fourth final of the season as the Russian knocked out Dominic Thiem in straight sets in the semifinal of the Gijon Open on Saturday.

The world no. 9 improved to 4-2 against the Austrian as he eased to a 6-4, 6-4 victory in an hour and 37 minutes.

After building a 4-1 lead in the first set and then serving for the set at 5-3, Rublev dropped serve. But he broke a second time in the set in the very next game and took a one-set-to-love lead. In the second set, both players held serve over the first nine games, before the Russian broke in the 10th, converting a third match point and advancing to the final.

Rublev struck 19 winners and won 13 of 17 net points.

Rublev had begun the tournament with a determined three-set win against Ilya Ivashka in the second round. He then knocked out American Tommy Paul 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinal, before ending Dominic Thiem’s solid run.

The 11-time tour-level champion will be featuring in his 17th final. He is three from three in finals this year, winning the titles in Marseille, Dubai and Belgrade. Can he keep his 100% season record in finals intact?

Korda Knocks Out Rinderknech

Sebastian Korda ousted Arthur Rinderknech on Saturday to reach his maiden final of the season.

The 22-year-old American, who had reached the first two finals of his career last year, winning his maiden title in Emilia Romagna, will be looking to clinch the second title of his career

Ranked no. 47 in the world, Korda saved two set points on his serve at 4-5 in the first set, before clinching the set in the tiebreak. He got the only break of the second set in the sixth game to win the contest 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.

Korda won 83% points on the first serve, struck 29 winners and won 16 of 21 net points.

It’s been a splendid week for Korda. The American had begun his campaign with a straight sets win against Jaume Munar before rallying past third seed Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round. He also needed three sets to defeat Andy Murray in the quarterfinal.

Overall, Korda improved to 30-19 following Saturday’s win. Can he win a second title of his career on Sunday?

Rublev v Korda Prediction and Tip

Rublev is the more experienced player and he is excellent form. The 24-year-old is 46-16 this season and has already won three titles from three finals. He has a good record of winning finals and is expected to claim his 12th title on Sunday.
