A title winner at Bastad and a semifinalist at the Hamburg Open and Bastad Open, Cerundolo’s only performance of note on hard court surfaces this season was his shock semifinal appearance the Miami Masters.
Other than that showing in Miami, the Argentine has struggled to get going in non-clay competitions.
More recently, Cerundolo was struck by a first round loss at the Montreal and Cincinnati Masters before suffering a similar fate at the US Open as well.
This was followed by a couple of defeats in the Davis Cup and then another opening loss at Astana, making it seven defeats in a row.
It was just at the first round of the Gijon Open last week that Cerundolo finally managed a victory but then again in the second round he was sent packing by Dominic Thiem in straight sets.
With Cerundolo’s form this underwhelming, it might not be a surprise if he makes another early exit in this competition.

Hüsler Raring to Go after Sofia Title
While Husler might have been bumped out in the first round of the Astana Open two weeks ago, that was probably on expected lines.
After all, the Swiss player had only a two days before that loss, lifted his first ever ATP title in Sofia by beating the likes of Pablo Carreno Busta and Holger Rune.
To expect the 26-year-old to then overcome that euphoria, pack, travel and play again a couple of days later, would have been expecting too much.
Now though, Husler has had a 11-day break and will be physically fit and raring to go as he takes to court against a badly-struggling Cerundolo. It isn’t much of a surprise that Husler is a favourite.

Cerundolo’s poor form, despite his superior ranking, means he starts off 5/4 to win this which are very short odds for his win. Going with a Husler victory.
