Jelena Ostapenko v Lauren Davis Head to Head
There have been four previous matches between these two and both have won two apiece. On clay, both have won one, while Davis won their hard court match and Ostapenko triumphed on grass.
They last met in Rome earlier this year and Davis had clinched that in straight sets.

Ostapenko on a Three-Match Losing Streak
Ostapenko had had a brilliant start to the season as she found herself a place in the third round at the Australian Open, a couple of semifinals in St. Petersburg and Doha while going on to win the title at the WTA Dubai.
Since then, however, the Latvian player has shown the odd spark of brilliance but at the same time struggled to make past the early rounds at some of the other tournaments.
Take for instance what happened at the WTA Seoul. She was a finalist there, losing to Ekaterina Alexandrova in the title-decider but in the two tournaments that have followed, Ostapenko has lost in the first round.
She went down to Kaia Kanepi in Talinn before falling to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in Ostrava. And she now faces an opponent who might be ranked 89th but has beaten her in the past. Can Ostapenko avoid a potential banana-peel of an encounter here?

Davis Eases Through the Qualifiers
Hoping to maintain some of her more recent form, Davis will look to take the momentum from the qualifiers here when she takes on a familiar rival in the first round of this competition.
After a string of poor results, Davis had made it to the third round at the US Open and followed it up with quarterfinal appearances at the two clay court competitions that followed. She made the last eight at Budapest and Parma.
And while Davis failed to qualify for the San Diego Open, going down to the eventual finalist Donna Vekic, the American has come through four easy sets to make the main draw here.
Davis lost just 11 games in total in her demolition of Bethanie Mattek and Nao Hibino to set up this meeting with Ostapenko. Can she put up a fighting showing here?
