Ostapenko Crushes Davis in Opener
Form might not have been on Ostapenko’s side since she made it to the final of the Korea Open late last month but she did not have any issues in getting past Lauren Davis in the first round here.
Having come into this tournament on the back of three successive defeats including a couple of them at the hands of Kaia Kanepi and Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
Here against Davis, however, Ostapenko needed just an hour and 11 minutes to make it past her American opponent. She won 6-1, 6-3 as she romped to a stunning opening set win and only dropped her serve while up 2-1 in the second.
From there on too, Ostapenko got back her rhythm as she broke Davis two more times to carve out the win.
Against a player who hasn’t played a lot of tennis, Ostapenko shouldn’t have a lot of worries.

Bouchard Has a Good Day Out
Kayla Day had passed the qualifying test with back to back wins against players who had gone into those matches as favourites but against Bouchard, she came a cropper.
Bouchard carved out a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Day to finally register a main draw win, a first since her shock run at the Chennai Open which had seen her get through to the last eight stage.
It was also only Bouchard’s third win of the season and comes in the same city where she had made the final of the Guadalajara Open last season.
Can she now find a way to dismantle Ostapenko’s aggression in this second round encounter?
