Pablo Carreno Busta made a perfect start in Basel smashing Sebastian Baez rather easily 6-2 6-1. It was a statement win for Busta who did have a very good week in Napoli reaching the quarter-final but losing to Miomir Kecmanovic. One week before that he lost to Arthur Rinderknech in his native Gijon and that one was painful.
Despite those losses, Busta has had a very good year overall winning his maiden ATP 1000 trophy this year and posting a 34-22 record. He’s always been quite solid indoor but never amazing and his dominant win was more of a reflection of Baez than him.
He faces a tricky challenge against a native player who will have the backing of the crowd and plenty of weapons to hurt him. Winning this match will take a serious effort and approach from him and I’m fairly certain he’s going to deliver both.

Stricker Amazes Native Crowd Against Cressy
Dominic Stricker is one of the brighter talents coming out of Switzerland in recent years and he certainly did not disappoint his fellow countrymen in his round-one clash with Cressy. A very good win against a player who is capable of playing some very good tennis.
Generally, the year has been very good for him with a 34-23 record and he made some good moves towards his goal of getting into the top 100. He could get it by the end of the year he only needs to beat one very solid player – Carreno Busta.
He’s certainly going to be a far bigger challenge than Cressy because he’s a far more complete player with ways of attacking Stricker. It all will depend on the serve of the Swiss player because if he doesn’t hit it at a very high clip, it’s going to be fairly impossible to win.
Carreno Busta v Stricker Prediction and Tip
I think this will be an entertaining match although I’m not sure how competitive. Carreno Busta has everything he needs to win this match and I will back him to do so in two sets. Stricker can make it interesting but only if his best version shows up.
