Dan Evans v Denis Shapovalov Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Evans leads their head to head series by two matches to one. He won their Davis Cup tie in 2017, but it was Shapovalov’s turn at the Miami Masters in 2019.

Their most recent match was at the ATP Cup in January, Evans winning that contest in straight sets.

Evans Maintains Unbeaten Record Against Khachanov

Evans has maintained his recent record of making quarter-finals – he also made the last eight in San Diego and Antwerp last week.

So far in Vienna he has been relatively untroubled, beginning his campaign with a  straightforward win over the German Lucky Loser, Oscar Otte,

Karen Khachanov, the world number 18, posed a stiffer challenge on paper in the second round, but Evans had never lost to him in two previous meetings and was in no mood to start now.

The match began with three consecutive games going against serve, at the end of which sequence the Englishman was a break up. Another break enabled him to take the set.

Evans had to save a break point at the star of the second set, but Khachanov’s failure to convert it cost his dear. He was broken again next game and in the service game that followed.

From there Evans could just coast to victory.

Shapovalov Avenges Fritz Tokyo Loss

The Canadian was given a kind first round draw against the Australian wildcard Jurij Rodionov, and beat the world number 130 in straight sets with no due alarms.

That earned him a second round meeting with Taylor Fritz of the USA, the world number 10, in what was a rematch of their Tokyo semi-final clash which Fritz had won in three sets on his way to the title.

This time the boot was on the other foot.

Shapovalov started much the stronger and swept through the first set for the loss of just one game.

But Fritz rallied, forced a break midway through the second set, and ultimately was able to level the match.

The sixth game of the third set proved decisive. Fritz saved one break point but not the second. The Canadian was able to serve out form there and could enjoy his revenge.

Dan Evans v Denis Shapovalov Prediction and Tip
