Caroline Garcia v Maria Sakkari Head to Head
Garcia leads 2-0, beating Sakkari as recently as the Cincinnati Open 2022 in three sets.

Caroline Garcia had to dig deep to make it to the semifinal of the WTA Finals. Playing Daria Kasatkina, Caro staged a comeback after losing the first set to take the match 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(5) in two and a half hours.
Combined with her win over Coco Gauff, she finished second in her group with a game-win tally of 52% (34-32).
This is the second time that Garcia will compete in the semis of the year-end tournament; the last instance was in 2017, where she lost to Venus Williams in three sets.
Her chances this time around are much better when considering the superb year she has had. The 29-year-old Frenchwoman is 43-20 with three titles from Bad Homburg, Poland Open, and Cincinnati Open. She also reached her maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open.
It is also worth noting that Garcia is the current World No. 6 – after starting the season outside the top 60. She is also the most experienced player in the field right now.

Sakkari Ends on a Perfect Note
Maria Sakkari, ranked World No. 5, topped her group with a perfect record of 3-0. Her exploits entailed straight-set wins over Maria Sakkari, Jessica Pegula, and Aryna Sabalenka.
This will be Maria’s second time in a row to compete in the semis of the WTA Finals. Last year, she couldn’t make it past this stage, but perhaps, she will go the distance this time.
Her consistency has been top-notch this year; most recently, she was the runner-up in the WTA 1000 Guadalajara. In addition, she was the finalist in St. Petersburg, Indian Wells, and Parma.
All in all, Sakkari is 40-22 heading into this showdown with Garcia. At the same time, she has seen her fair share of erratic results – notably by losing early on in competitions to players like Alycia Parks, Donna Vekic, Xiyu Wang, Shelby Rogers, Tatjana Maria, Karolina Muchova, and Anhelina Kalinina.
Clearly, Garcia is a player who is in a far superior league than them, and as a result, the Greek will need to be careful.

This is going to be a brilliant encounter. Sakkari is the odds-on favourite, but Garcia’s pedigree and experience make her a force to be reckoned with. This is an even match that can swing either way. Expect a fair number of games.
