Novak Djokovic admitted after the win over Fritz that he didn’t feel his best on the court but he still played pretty strong tennis to beat the American in straight sets. The match should have probably gone to three sets but a bit of luck helped him.
Winning that in two sets was crucial as he give him more chances to recover physically as he isn’t 100 % fit it seems. He’s playing far more aggressively than usually which indicates that he’s looking to shorten the points and match. Nothing he does is by chance to there is a plan behind that.
Djokovic knows Ruud’s game well and bested him a couple of times in the past including once in Turin.
It was somewhat of a close match, pretty similar to what I expect to happen here as well. The serve will be key though and it’s worked really well so far.

Ruud Cruises Into Final
Nobody expected Casper Ruud to win so easily against Andrey Rublev but the Russian really fell apart far too easily in that match. It’s a good thing for Ruud, to keep himself resh for the final because he’ll need it.
The past matches over Djokovic showed a flaw in his game that leaves him quite vulnerable to Djokovic.
Ruud is not the most aggressive player and he needs to be that to beat Djokovic. He won’t outsmart him in rallies nor will he bait him into an error so he needs to attack, both with his serve and groundstrokes.
It’s worked well so far at this event but Djokovic kind of exposed him here last year.
I think Ruud will play a great match, he’ll be patient and do all the things he needs to do but I still don’t see him winning the match.
A lot will depend on how Djokovic feels overall but I just think stylistically that Ruud’s game doesn’t go well with Djokovic’s.
Djokovic v Ruud Prediction and Tip
I expected another close match here because most of the matches this year was pretty close. I’m not sure we’ll see three sets but certainly over 21,5 games.
