Zverev Returns to Competitive Tennis

It was at the French Open semifinal last season that Zverev last played a tennis match at the highest level. He looked to have given Rafael Nadal a good run for his money before an ankle injury didn’t just end his chances in the tournament but also his season.

Zverev didn’t play any tennis on the ATP circuit after that for the rest of the year and only returned earlier this month to feature in a couple of exhibition competitions.

He overcame Dominic Thiem and lost to Daniil Medvedev at the Diriyah Tennis Cup while defeating Novak Djokovic and Andreas Seppi at the World Tennis League. Those are encouraging signs for the German who has fallen to 12th in the world ranking after being third at the time of his injury.

Can he get back to competitive tennis with a solid win over a player who has never been in the top 50?

Lehecka Starts off with Easy Defeat

While Lehecka did purport to put up a fight in Czech Republic’s opening tie match against USA’s Taylor Fritz, he did not last too long.

In a match that lasted a mere hour and 16 minutes, Lehecka dropped his serve once in each of the two sets to go down 6-3, 6-4. And it wasn’t as if Lehecka did not have his own chances, getting a couple of break-points in the second set to try and gain ascendancy in the encounter.

Fritz saved both and then as Lehecka served at 4-4, broke his service and then served out the match.

Lehecka, who had hit a career-high ranking of 59th in the world last season but then ended year at 81st, will hope he can put up a better fight here.

Zverev v Lehecka Prediction and Tip

Zverev is returning from his injury and there’s that unknown quantity about him. Expecting him to still cruise but for Lehecka’s serve to still test out the German on occasions
