Michalski Makes Losing Start

Michalski achieved a career high ranking in June, although it has slightly dipped since then.

2022 was also the year that he made his Davis Cup debut for Poland, winning his only rubber.

Primarily known for his exploits on the ITF tour, he did make one Challenger final in March 2022, finishing on the losing side in an event in Croatia.

His campaign in Australia did not get off to the best of starts, though, playing against the Kazakh Skatov in their match on New Year’s Eve.

The Pole fought bravely in the first set, and saved five set points to take it to a tie-break, where he went a mini-break up, and had two set points of his own. But Skatov broke back and then broke again to claim the set.

Michalski dropped his serve again at the start of the second set, and there was no way back for him from there, with Skatov consolidating his position with another break.

Huesler Has Big Shoes to Fill

Huesler finds himself with big shoes to fill, having become the number one Swiss male player following the retirement of Roger Federer, and with Stan Wawrinka constantly battling to stay fit.

But he showed that he might be up for the challenge by winning his first senior title in Sofia in October, beating the Dane Holger Rune in the final.

His to do list for 2023 will include improving his dismal record in Grand Slam events, never having been beyond the first round of any of them.

He began his campaign in the United Cup with a hard fought victory over the world number 142, Timofey Skatov of Kazakhstan, who won the first set of their match, before Huesler rallied with a break in each of the following two sets, which was enough to give him victory in the end.

Michalski v Huesler Prediction and Tip

Huesler will be considered the firm favourite for this match, not least because he beat Skatov, whilst Michalski lost to the Kazakh.
