Iga Swiatek v Belinda Bencic Head to Head

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek wasted no time getting things going in the United Cup 2023. Playing Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva in the Pat Rafter Arena, Brisbane, she won the match comfortably 6-1, 6-3.
However, her compatriot Daniel Michalski lost to Timofey Skatov on Friday. For Poland to be in the driving seat now, their contingent must win two of the three matches on Sunday against the Kazakhs.
On her part, Swiatek is certainly well-positioned to deliver where she can. She is partnered with Hubert Hurkacz for the doubles on New Year’s Day, but it is yet to be seen if she will feature in the doubles against Switzerland too.
For what it’s worth, Swiatek is the player to beat in the competition – and on tour this season. She closed the 2022 spell with 67-9 and 8 singles titles, bagging close to $10 million in prize money. The 21-year-old has been in brilliant form throughout and has proven herself to be a difficult player to beat.

Bencic in a Similar Boat
Belinda Bencic also beat Putintseva, albeit by a lower margin. She was tested in the first set but managed to get her bearings in the second; the Swiss took the match 7-6(0), 6-3.
The Swiss contingent won all five of their matches in the group against Kazakhstan. As a result, they now lead the table with all statistics in their favour.
This will ease some pressure off Belinda, but given her competitive nature, she will look forward to making Iga work.
The 25-year-old had a good 2022 season; she closed the year with 42-18, the highlight being the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. Bencic steered her nation against Jasmine Paolini, Leylah Fernandez, Karolina Pliskova, and Ajla Tomljanovic to bring home the prestigious silverware.
Apart from this, she also reached the penultimate rounds in many big WTA events.
Bencic v Swiatek Prediction and Tip
Swiatek is the odds-on favourite, but Bencic is riding the BJK Cup Finals high. Having won for her country with her teammates just last month, she has a good chance of repeating that feat again.
