Mackenzie McDonald v Daniel Elahi Galan Head to Head
This will be their first meeting on the tour. Galan won on clay at a lower level tournament in 2021.

A finalist at the Washington Open in 2021, Mackenzie McDonald didn’t have a good start in 2022.
He struggled to win on consistent basis and didn’t threaten to go deep in the tournaments too often. However, a quarterfinal finish in Dubai and his run to the third round in Miami, helped him gain considerably in the rankings as he peaked to a career-high ranking of 49.
It was the first time that McDonald had broken into the top 50, but that stay was a brief one as the 27-year-old slid in the rankings again.
While consecutive wins became hard to come by, McDonald slid further in the rankings and into the top 90, but he finished the season well and that allowed him to gain a few important points before the end of the season.
Currently ranked no. 63, McDonald made the quarterfinals in Seoul and Florence and the semis in Napoli. He had an overall record of 28-31 in 2022. His aim in 2023 will be to earn more wins and find a way to reach the quarterfinals and beyond more often.

Hard Courts Pose a Challenge for Galan
Daniel Elahi Galan is considered a clay court specialist having played a tremendous amount of tennis on the surface. But last season he made an impression at the U.S. Open.
The Colombian knocked out Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jordan Thompson in the first two rounds respectively before bowing out of the third round in what was his first ever appearance at Flushing Meadows.
Galan was 13-12 on the tour last year. But overall he finished with a 50-28 record.
A 50-win season was achievable thanks to two Challenger titles on clay.
Can Galan make heads turn in Adelaide? Despite the win over Tsitsipas, which could be a one-off event, he is yet to prove himself on hard courts. Can he show glimpses of what he is capable of on planes?
