Roberto Carballes-Baena v Bernabe Zapata Miralles Head to Head
The pair have played each other once before in a Challenger final last year in Seville, Carballes-Baena emerging the winner after two tightly contested sets.

Carballes-Baena ended 2022 virtually the same place that he began it in terms of world rankings, and his one solitary title on the senior tour remains the Ecuador Open, which he won almost five years ago.
However, that does not mean that his season was devoid of highlights. He reached four finals on the Challenger tour, winning two of them. And the fact that he beat Zapata Miralles in Seville to win the second of them provides some pointers to what might happen in their match in Pune.
It should be noted, though, that the match in Spain was on clay, a favourite surface for both of them.
Where he fell short was in the major tournaments. In terms of Grand Slams, the best he could manage were second round appearances at Roland Garros and in New York.
And he only qualified for two Masters – in Indian Wells and Miami- and was beaten in the first round on both occasions.

Zapata Miralles Reached Fourth Round of US Open Last Year
2022 was something of a breakthrough year for Zapata Miralles, which saw him end the season at an all-time career high ranking.
In large part, that was due to his performance at the French Open, where he reached the fourth round, in the process beating both Taylor Fritz and John Isner.
He had never got beyond the second round of a Grand Slam tournament before.
Like Carballes-Baena, he also enjoyed success on the Challenger tour, winning an event in Germany, before settling for the runner-up spot in Seville.
He had a slightly disappointing end to the season after that, which ended with him failing to qualify for the Swiss Open and the Paris Masters.

The pair are very evenly matched on paper, and in the betting market, with Zapata Miralles just the marginal favourite. This is a match that could easily go either way, especially given the history of the previous match between the two.
