Maria Sakkari v Elise Mertens
Maria Sakkari takes on Elise Mertens in a very interesting United Cup matchup hoping to bring glory to Greece. They played plenty of times with Sakkari leading the matchup 5-4 overall. The last one was played in St. Petersburg last year with Sakkari winning that one.
It’s an interesting matchup between two players who don’t really play the same way. Sakkari is far more consistent and can be considered the better player overall. They both won their first matches at the Laver Cup but Sakkari was far more convincing.
I expect her to win this match as well because she’s the better player and looked better in her match compared to Mertens. The matchup is close and they tend to play some close matches but I think that overall Sakkari is in a btter rhythm right now.

Matteo Berrettini v Casper Ruud
Another interesting matchup at the United Cup will be between Casper Ruud and Matteo Berrettini. Both of them have taken part in exhibition events leading up to this event and it’s been fine. Both also won their opening match at the United cup and the wins came over the same player.
Ruud defeated Thiago Monteiro 6-3 6-2 while Berrettini needed a bit more games 6-4 7-6(7). Based on that we can assume that Ruud is in a better rhythm and that would not be a surprise. He never had an offseason and continued playing tennis after the ATP Finals.
He will certainly be in better shape compared to his opponent as Berrettini missed a lot of time at the end of the season and only returned recently. Ruud leads the H2H as well and he’ll probably win this match as well.

Hubert Hurkacz v Stan Wawrinka
Another fascinating matchup will be between Hubert Hurkacz and Stan Wawrinka. Both of these players have played really well to start the year but Wawrinka was particularly impressive. He is serving really well and can do a lot of damage with his groundstrokes.
Hurkacz is pretty solid as well and he’ll always bring that overall calm approach to tennis never getting too much flustered. It’s just a really good matchup that should give us some amazing tennis. Interestingly, they never played against each other and this will be their first matchup.
It’s widely expected that Hurkacz wins this one as he’s simply more solid overall but I could see a way that Wawrinka wins this match as well. Overall though we should see a very competitive one, with a lot of games played so the over seems like a good idea.
