Erin Routliffe v Elena-Gabriela Ruse Head to Head

Routliffe and Ruse have not played each other at any level before this.

Routliffe Set for Main Draw Debut

Erin Routliffe will be in a buoyant mood ahead of her debut appearance in the main draw of the ASB Classic in her home country. Routliffe is a renowned doubles operator, recording a career-best ranking of World No. 29 in doubles.

She produced a breakthrough run at the Australian Open in mixed doubles last season where she reached the quarterfinals and advanced to the same stage at Wimbledon in doubles alongside Alicja Rosolska.

But her singles record pales in comparison to her doubles prowess. At 27, Routliffe is yet to appear at any WTA-level main draw tournament. It will certainly be a momentous occasion for her to play in front of her home crowd.

Routliffe was born in New Zealand before switching allegiance to Canada. But since 2017, she has been representing New Zealand, including Fed Cup matches.

Ruse Makes Light Work of Uchijima

Elena-Gabriela Ruse had a more straightforward qualifying match on Sunday than her previous round where she was pushed to the limit by Aliona Bolsova.

Ruse made light of Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima, winning in an hour and 30 minutes to reach the main draw. Ruse’s failure to defend her Hamburg crown last year has been detrimental to her ranking.

She was ranked as high as No. 51 last summer, but she has since dropped outside the Top 100. Her negative win-loss record from last season has also not helped her cause and she has now resorted to playing qualifying matches at WTA 250 events.

But that could be a blessing in disguise as she drew the New Zealand wild card Erin Routliffe who has a significantly low level of experience in singles.

Routliffe v Ruse Prediction and Tip

It would be a seismic shock if Ruse loses this match. Routliffe played just five singles matches in 2022 and none of those on the WTA Tour. The New Zealand wild card is at an astronomical odds of 9/1 with some markets to win here
