Huge Win for Cecchinato in Opener

Marco Cecchinato caught some form last year to dramatically improve after months of terrible.

Most of that came on clay which is where he made most of his money but the effort got him very close to the top 100 again. A win against Griekspoor could aid in that effort.

It would certainly be a good run for him after he put forward one of his better performances on hard courts to defeat Nikoloz Basilashvili. It’s not a huge win in the grand scheme of things but it was a huge win for him, to start the year properly.

He’s 28-60 on the surface and that tells you all you need to know. He has a pretty decent serve some good groundstrokes and a picturesque one-handed backhand.

All of that works well on clay courts but he lacks the proper instincts to be good on hard courts generally.

Griekspoor Battles Past Munar

Getting past Munar is not easy because the Spaniard has a very good idea of how to frustrate players.

Incredibly long rallies and physical matches are his forte but Griekspoor is not a player who enjoys that at all. He prefers it on the quicker side and he won the battle of styles between them.

It wasn’t some spectacular showing but he did just enough. That’s actually the calling card of Griekspoor because he’s just so very solid most of the time. Not too high, not too low which makes it easy to expect what we’ll get from him in a match.

Griekspoor is favoured in this one, a bit too much in my opinion but he’s the far better player on hard courts.

His overall record is 115-63 so he has close to about 90 wins more on the surface and he’s four years younger. He’s better but not that much better when peaks are compared.

Cecchinato v Griekspoor Prediction and Tip

So as mentioned Griekspoor is favoured and for good reason. Even so, I don’t think it will be that easy because he generally tends to play competitive matches. He should win but not without complications.
