Karen Khachanov v Jack Draper Head to Head

Khachanov and Draper have met once before, in the third round of the 2022 US Open. Draper was forced to retire in that match at one set all due to injury.

Khachanov Ousts Cachin

Karen Khachanoc was not expected to encounter any sort of resistance in his first match at the Adelaide International, and that proved to be the case.

The Russian power hitter exploited Pedro Cachin’s weaknesses to win 6-2 6-4 in an hour and 27 minutes. Khachanoc reached the final last year at this tournament, losing to Gael Monfils, and feels he has some unfinished business in Adelaide.

Cachin, who is naturally a clay-court specialist, having captured a season-leading four titles on the Challenger Tour, was broken twice in the opening set. The quicker conditions did not help his cause as he struggled to get into any sort of rhythm.

In the second set, the 27-year-old Argentine put up a good fight, first recovering from going down a break, but ultimately was overpowered by the Russian and was made to pay for his failure to convert six break points.

Draper Routs Kwon

Jack Draper was one the most successful players on the Challenger Tour last year, despite playing at that level for just three and half months. He won a joint-leading four titles (along with Cachin) and made some serious progress at Tour level.

Much will be expected from Draper in 2023, and the signs are extremely positive following his straight-sets demolition job of Soonwoo Kwon.

The South Korean has forged a reputation as one the ATP’s most all-round players, but was outclassed by Draper’s sheer groundstroke precision.

The World No. 42 took an hour and nine minutes to book his spot in the next round, losing just three games in the process. His serve continues to be a bedrock as he served eight aces and saved all three break points he faced. He was also dominant behind the return, winning 50% return points on the first serve, and 64% behind Kwon’s second serve.

Khachanov v Draper Prediction and Tip

This is a tough draw for Khachanov who is playing the Tour’s rapidly-improving star in Draper. Their US Open match last September gave us a dose of what we can expect here and we think this could ebb and flow either way.
