Filip Krajinovic v Michael Mmoh Head to Head

54th-ranked Filip Krajinovic has not played Michael Mmoh at any level before this.

Krajinovic Survives Nagal Scare

Filip Krajinovic needed to produce his best tennis right out of the gates to hold off a spirited charge by wild card Sumit Nagal and book his spot in the second round of the Pune Open.

Krajinovic who is playing in India for the first time, made a fast start on Monday, going up a break in the opening game and staying clinical throughout the first set which he won 6-4 in 40 minutes.

But Nagal recovered brilliantly and showed flashes of his talent that took to a career-high World No. 122 not so long ago, staying in close touch with his opponent for the entire second set and stealing a service break in the tenth game.

Just as it appeared the match would likely go into a tiebreak as the pair were deadlocked at 4-4 in the third, Krajinovic pulled off some quality shot-making, coupled with Nagal’s lapse in concentration to find the crucial break that nudged him ahead. He went on to serve for the match with little fuss.

Mmoh Halts A Fairytale in the Making

Michael Mmoh’s opening-round match against Indian wild card Manas Dhamne was one of the most highly anticipated contests in the tournament’s history.

Dhamne who celebrated his 15th birthday less than a week ago, caught Mmoh by surprise with his level of play, despite falling to a 6-2 6-4 defeat.

It is somewhat of an anomaly to expect a 15-year-old without prior experience at this level against to win a bulk of points against a player ranked 113 in the world. But Dhamne showed a glimpse of his talent much to the delight of locals, who cheered him on every step of the way.

After an opening point of real quality, Dhamne outsmarted the American in one of the longest rallies in just the fourth game of the first set. But Mmoh upped the ante and soon began to boss proceedings with his quick footwork and physical presence on the court.

The American was untroubled despite losing his serve midway through the second set.

Krajinovic v Mmoh Prediction and Tip

Despite being pushed to a third set, Krajinovic did not look remotely close to losing his opening match. The same could be said of Michael Mmoh who drew possibly the easiest tie in Pune and won comfortably. With that said, none of these two players looked assured from the baseline, probably because of rust-related games in this brand new season. The American though is definitely a player on the rise.
