Marin Cilic v Tallon Griekspoor Head to Head

He might have been ranked 74th in the world and not in the greatest of touches but Roberto Carballés Baena did seem to make Cilic’s life difficult on court.
The world number 17 needed three sets and more than two hours to get past his Spanish opponent in the second round. Cilic earlier had a first round bye.
Slamming 16 aces in the encounter, it was Cilic’s first serve that bailed him out of trouble all throughout the encounter but the one time it failed to do so, Carballés Baena managed to break him. That sole break against Cilic came in the sixth game of the second set, forcing the encounter into a decider.
A couple of breaks of serves for Cilic followed in the decider which was enough for him to wrap things up 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to seal his quarterfinal berth.
When he had last played in this tournament in 2018, Cilic had made it to the semifinal. Standing between him and a repeat of that showing is a 95th-ranked player.

Griekspoor Clinical against Cecchinato
It took Griekspoor all of an hour and 14 minutes to notch up a second round win against Marco Cecchinato after he had given Jaume Munar a similar straight-set treatment in the first.
Griekspoor won 6-4, 6-4 after breaking his opponent once apiece in each of the two sets. He did not face a single break-point of his own either, with his strong serving bailing him out most times.
The Dutchman came away with a 83% first serve winning percentage but more importantly also clinched 74% of his second serves to come through with that win.
He will require something similar against a player whose serving is as good as Cilic’s. Will that be enough though given that unlike Cecchinato, Cilic actually likes the hardcourt surface.

Cilic is a heavy favourite here with offers of 2/5 for his victory looking quite delicious too. Can we expect a straight set win though? Seems likely as well.
