Aryna Sabalenka v Irina Begu Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the Miami Open last season and Begu shocked Sabalenka in that second round clash.

Following her scratchy win over Luidmilla Samsonova in the second round, there was a sense that Sabalenka might find it a lot tougher against the in-form Marketa Vondrousova in their last eight encounter.
Vondrousova, after all, was coming off successive performances of note including one in which she had sent Ekaterina Alexandrova packing.
Sabalenka rose to the occasion though and sent Vondrousova packing in straight sets to seal her semifinal berth. In a contest that lasted an hour and 34 minutes, Sabalenka defeated her Czech opponent 6-3, 7-5 to reach the last four.
It was Sabalenka who drew first blood by breaking Vondrousova and taking a 4-2 lead and then sealed the set off her third set-point. She then went 4-1 up in the second set with two breaks of serves and looked to be on her way to an easy win.
Her opponent had other ideas as she broke right back in the sixth game and then again as Sabalenka served for the match in the 10th. Fortunately for the Belarusian player, she broke right back and then served it out to make the semifinals.

Begu Shocks Kudermetova
Such has been Veronika Kudermetova’s form that she had started off a 1/4 favourite against Begu in their quarterfinal. Two hours and nine minutes later, the script had been overturned as Begu carved out a straight-set win over the Russian to move into the semis.
In a match that was filled with breaks of serves – there were 10 of them – it was Begu who got an extra break in each of the two sets to eke out a 7-5, 6-4 win.
This was after Begu had come off surprise wins over Shelby Rogers (she was 1/2 to win it) and Jelena Ostapenko (9/20 to win) in the first two rounds. This victory over Kudermetova, however, would count as one of Begu’s best.
That said, Begu has already defeated Sabalenka once before and that result came less than a year ago. Can she make it four wins in a row here?
Sabalenka v Begu Prediction and Tip
While Sabalenka is an obvious favourite at 7/20, we think Begu will put up a sterling show and a fight that could push her opponent to the brink. Three-setter expected.
