Karolina Pliskova v Alison Riske Head to Head
In the six times that the two ladies have met so far, Pliskova has won on five occasions and presently Riske by 5-1. The Czech has won their last three encounters with her most recent win over the American coming in the 2018 WTA Tokyo. Riske’s sole win over Pliskova came back in 2012.
Pliskova – the Most Consistent Player this Season
The World No. 5 has started this season in the best way possible – with a singles title and cementing her position in the top five. She has lost only two matches up until now and looks very prime to go the distance in Dubai.
Earlier this year, she won the Brisbane International and followed it with a semifinal run in the Australian Open, where she lost to Naomi Osaka. It is worth noting that in the same tournament, she defeated Serena Williams after saving multiple match points.
As for her second defeat, that came to Simona Halep in the Fed Cup – a defeat that proved to be costly for her team as they failed to reach the next round.
In Dubai, Pliskova was given a bye into the second round where she faced Dominika Cibulkova. In three sets, she defeated the Slovakian to reach the third round where a relatively easy fixture awaits her.
Riske Looking to Repeat the Shenzhen Antics
Earlier this year, Alison Riske competed in the WTA Shenzhen where she was the runner-up after losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the final. It was a good tournament for the 28-year-old American although, she lost in the final in Shenzhen for the third time in a row.
Riske hasn’t won a title since the 2014 Tianjin Open and since then, she has lost six WTA finals.
Following her defeat in Shenzhen, the World No. 51 participated in the Australian Open where she lost to Kiki Bertens in the first round. She also played in Doha last week where she started as a qualifier and reached the second round in the main draw, only to lose to Julia Goerges.
But as fate would have it, she got a main draw ticket in Dubai and started her run against none other than Goerges. This time, it was her turn to defeat the German and she did so in straight sets. Following that win, she met Alize Cornet in the second round and there too, she delivered a similar result with 6-2, 6-3.
Pliskova v Riske Predictions & Tips
Pliskova will start this match as the favourite here and should be able to win this one. However, Riske has been looking quite impressive of late and that kind of confidence can very well prompt her to deliver a massive upset. This will be an interesting match to follow.
