However, the lucky loser rule and the withdrawal of several players earned her a ticket into the main draw. Anisimova quickly made the most of this chance as she dispatched Liudmila Samsonova 7-5, 6-3.
This also marks her first main-draw win since the Cincinnati Open in August last year. Although that season wasn’t particularly star-studded, the 21-year-old won the Melbourne Summer Set and reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal. Her final tally was 33-13.

Maia, Eager to Build on Her Last Season
Beatriz Haddad Maia, currently ranked World No. 15 (a career-best feat for her), is looking to go further in 2023 – propelled by her fabulous spell last year.
The 26-year-old concluded the season at 51-23 – reaching three finals on the WTA singles tour, four on the doubles, and two on the Challenger singles. All in all, Maia bagged five titles and displayed exceptional proficiency on all turfs.
With that tempo, the 11th seed started the year in the United Cup, winning her singles bouts against Malene Helgo and Martina Trevisan.
In Adelaide, Beatriz maintained her momentum with a 7-6(5), 6-1 win over Sorana Cirstea.
