Caroline Garcia v Belinda Bencic Head to Head

The only previous meeting between these two players came at the 2018 Wimbledon and Bencic had won that in straight sets.

Garcia Scrapes Through against Siniakova

She hit 14 aces and had a first serve percentage of 71 in the match but Garcia was still taken to a lengthy three-setter before she managed to come through in her second round encounter.

Katerina Siniakova overcame the loss of two successive breaks in the first set to come away with a surprising equaliser in the second set against the run of play.

Garcia took a 3-0 lead in the decider but her opponent kept up with her scrappy display, breaking back in the fifth game and pushing it towards another tie-breaker.

It was in the 12th game that Garcia earned herself three match-points off Siniakova’s serve. She missed the first two but converted the third to finish off a two hour, 17 minute long encounter.

This made it three wins in as many matches for Garcia following her twin wins in the United Cup as well. Can she now hold off Bencic in this quarterfinal?

Bencic Makes Short Work of Kalinskaya

Anna Kalinskaya has the potential to make it to the top 50 of the WTA Rankings very soon but the 13th-ranked Bencic was a different kettle of fish in their second round clash.

The Swiss number one needed an hour and 31 minutes to get past Kalinskaya and seal her quarterfinal berth after having shown Garbine Muguruza the door earlier in the tournament.

It wasn’t the most flawless performance from Bencic by any stretch, especially in the second set where she lost her serve twice. In fact after winning the first set and taking a 2-0 lead in the second, it looked like it could be anyone’s game from there on but Kalinskaya put up a brave fight.

She broke Bencic in the third and fifth game to serve at 3-2 but the Swiss player came back into the contest from that point on and converted it into a one-sided match. She won 6-3, 6-3, matching up to her quarterfinal showing at Sydney last year.

Can Bencic now take that one step further?

Garcia v Bencic Prediction and Tip

While Garcia will be a favourite here, one needs to be wary of the fact this match comes close to the Australian Open and players don’t usually want to give it their all because of their fear of injuries. Could see this one get over in two sets actually despite the close nature of the contest.
