Richard Gasquet v Constant Lestienne Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players which came at the 2018 Metz Open. Gasquet had won that in straight sets.

Gasquet Sends Goffin Packing

Not too many had given Gasquet a chance in his quarterfinal but the veteran Frenchman came through in three sets against David Goffin.

In a match that lasted just an hour and 33 minutes – sort of short when you consider it was a three-setter – Goffin won 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 with his much improved second serve proving to be the difference in the final two sets of the encounter.

Gasquet had earlier not been tested in the tournament with wins over Kiranpal Pannu and Joao Sousa but Goffin was expected to continue with his good form from the past.

And it seemed like he had done that too when he raced through the first set with three breaks of serves.

Little did Goffin know at that stage the only other time he would break Gasquet in the match was when he himself would be two breaks down in the second set.

Gasquet will now look to make it to his first ATP final since July 2021.

Lestienne Makes a Second Comeback in a Row

Lestienne had needed to come back from being a set down in the second round to overcome Gregoire Barrere. He did something in his quarterfinal as well, overcoming Laslo Djere in three sets after having lost the first.

The Frenchman was on court for two hours and 45 minutes and lost his serve more times than his opponent but still managed to eke out a victory. He won 2-6, 7-6 (2), 7-5 to make it to the semifinal.

Two breaks of serves in the first set gave Djere the lead and at 5-4, 40-30, the match looked to be his for the taking. Lestienne saved a match-point, broke Djere right back before levelling things out in the ensuing tie-breaker.

Breaks of serves were exchanged in the ninth and tenth games of the final but Lestienne did not miss out when he broke Djere again in the 11th, serving it out to seal his last four place.

Can he push Gasquet out here?

Gasquet v Lestienne Prediction and Tip

Gasquet is 3/5 to win this and we will have to go with that. Also, given the manner in which both these players like to put up a fight, expect a three-setter.
