Petra Kvitova v Alison Van Uytvanck Head to Head

It’s 1-1 between the two; they last met in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics where Alison won 5-7, 6-3, 6-0.

Kvitova Coming off QF Run

Petra Kvitova, former World No. 2, current #16, is heading for the Melbourne Slam on the back of an eventful start to the season.

She won her group matches against Laura Siegemund and Jessica Pegula in the United Cup in straight sets.

The experienced Czech then followed it with a quarterfinal showing in Adelaide International 2, where she moved past the current Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and rising Chinese star Qinwen Zheng.

Petra met Daria Kasatkina in the quarters but went down fighting 3-6, 6-7(3).

Her form in the last couple of seasons has been unexciting; she was 28-16 in 2021 and 27-19 in 2022. Kvitova reached just three finals in two years – going the distance in Qatar and Eastbourne and the runner-up feat in Cincinnati past August.

Van Uytvanck with a Dull Start

Alison Van Uytvanck also featured in the United Cup but was handed fixtures against lower-ranked players like Despina Papamichail and Isabella Shinikova.

The Belgian was tested in both matches, but she ultimately prevailed in three sets. Her next tie came in Hobart, where she beat Magda Linette in the opener 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, but lost to Xinyu Wang 5-7, 6-4, 3-6.

Uytvanck is currently ranked #70 – after a lacklustre spell last season where her best result was winning the ITF Surbiton and Veneto Challenger.

On the WTA Tour, the best she could do was reach the quarterfinal in Lyon and Den Bosch.

Kvitova v Van Uytvanck Prediction and Tip

As a runner-up here in 2019 and a two-time quarterfinalist and one-time semifinalist, Kvitova will fancy her chances of winning this one in the Aus Open 2023.

However, given that she lost to Alison in the Olympics, an upset is certainly on the cards here.

That said, the 15th seed didn’t lose a lot of fixtures out-of-top-50 players in 2022, so Van Uytvanck will really need to up her game. If she can get Kvitova to play a few too many games, then she can tilt the odds in her favour.
