Denis Shapovalov v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

Denis Shapovalov leads Dusan Lajovic 1-0 in their head-to-head. The Canadian lefty won that encounter on the clay of Monte Carlo a couple of seasons ago.

Shapovalov Makes Adelaide Quarters

Despite not matching last year’s exploits when Canada won the ATP Cup, Denis Shapovalov will be pretty pleased with his form heading to the 2023 Australian Open.

Shapovalov made the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International, the only tuneup event he signed up for prior to the year’s first Grand Slam.

He survived an opening-round scare, coming from a set down to defeat Australian qualifier Rinky Hijikata in three sets. Then he raised his level from that moment on, and went on to defeat Roman Safiullin in straight sets.

But Shapovalov hasn’t quite managed to solve the Novak Djokovic riddle as he lost to the Serbian for the eighth time in the series without a reply.

The 23-year-old’s best achievement at the Australian Open remains last year’s quarterfinal showing where he defeated the likes of Opelka and Alexander Zverev before falling to eventual champion Rafael Nadal.

Lajovic Loses in Auckland Qualifying

Dusan Lajovic has only played one competitive match this year, losing in the first round of qualifying at the Auckland Open, just a week before the 2023 Australian Open kicks off.

It was understandable he hasn’t played a huge amount of tennis this January before the Australian Open, having shut down his season in early December.

Lajovic won the Mas Palomas challenger last month, his first title of any kind since he captured the Umag trophy in 2019. Currently ranked 81st in the rankings, the Serbian is looking to rediscover the glory days that took him to the cusp of a Top 20 breakthrough a few seasons ago.

He tallied just four wins on hard courts in the whole of 2022 and will be a huge underdog to progress at the expense of big-serving Shapovalov.

Shapovalov v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Lajovic comes into this match without ground to work on. He hasn’t won a lot of matches on hard courts in the past two seasons and it is almost unthinkable he can get a result of any note.
