Madison Keys v Xinyu Wang Head to Head

The two ladies have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Keys Passes Blinkova Test

Madison Keys was tested in the Australian Open first round on Monday as she beat Anna Blinkova in three sets. The match went on for two hours and saw the American win 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 – committing an astonishing 49 unforced errors. However, she had twice as many winners as her Russian adversary (38 vs. 19), which ultimately made all the difference.

A semifinalist in last year’s edition, Keys is certainly primed to deliver such a result again. However, she will need to be mindful of Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sakkari – her potential opponents in the next couple of rounds.

She enjoyed a terrific buildup to the Slam by guiding the USA to an emphatic win in the inaugural United Cup. Madison, dropping just one set in five matches, won her fixtures against Jule Niemeier, Marie Bouzkova, Katie Swan, Magda Linette, and Lucia Bronzetti.

The 27-year-old is ranked World No. 13 – a feat she achieved after a decent spell in 2022, which saw her finish 30-20. Her highlights include a title from Adelaide 2 and a semifinal result in Cincinnati.

Wang Upsets Sanders

21-year-old Chinese Xinyu Wang was off to a decent start, beating the Australian Storm Sanders 7-6(2), 6-4 in 97 minutes. She also committed far too many unwanted errors (37) but made up for it with a higher winner count (31).

The youngster arrived in Melbourne on the heels of a quarterfinal result in Hobart. She started as a qualifier and beat Lily Taylor, Nuria Parrizas Diaz, Olivia Gadecki, and Alison Van Uytvanck. Before that, Wang featured in the ASB Classic but was dismissed by Sofia Kenin in round one.

Although Xinyu ended the last season at 31-27, most of those wins came in low-tier tournaments. She made it to four ITF finals, going the distance in two of them. On the WTA Tour, she never made it past round two in any of the events.

Keys v Wang Prediction and Tip

Given her form, momentum, and pedigree, this match is Keys’ to lose. Expect no surprises here.
