Alexander Zverev v Michael Mmoh Head to Head

Their only previous meeting between these two players came at the 2016 Miami Masters where Zverev won in two tie-breakers.

Zverev Finally Wins a Match in 2023

Zverev has made his long-awaited return to competitive tennis after missing out on the second half of the previous season because of an ankle injury.

And he hadn’t had the best of starts when he lost to Jiri Lehecka and Taylor Fritz at the United Cup in the first week of the season. Here too, had it been a best-of-three contest, Zverev would have had a loss marked against him but rallying late in his opening round contest against Juan Pablo Varillas, the German made it through to round two.

The world number 13 won 4-6, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-4 in a match that lasted over four hours in hot conditions, so much so that the organisers had to shut the roof. He was broken four times in the contest but did not face a single break-point in the final two sets of the encounter.

While there is always that chance that Zverev might not go very deep in the competition as he looks to slowly build back his rhythm after his layoff, a win like this could work wonders for his confidence.

Especially now that he has a player who has come through the qualifiers to make the second round here.

Mmoh Wears Down Lokoli in Opener

He was two sets to love down, a break down on two occasions including one where Mmoh’s opponent Laurent Lokoli was serving for the match. Soon after in the third set tie-breaker, Lokoli had a match-point as well and by the looks of things, lucky loser Mmoh’s luck seemed to have run out.

Except that he refused to give in.

Mmoh rallied from that point on, saving the match-point and then pushing it to the fourth set. Breaks of serves were traded in that set before Mmoh took full control of the encounter in the final set where he carved out back to back breaks to pocket the encounter.

Having never been past the second round at any Grand Slam, this could be a good chance for Mmoh to break the hoodoo given his opponent’s potential fitness issues.

Zverev v Mmoh Prediction and Tip

While Zverev starts off a favourite here, he could well be tested here and we might see Mmoh win at least a set. Zverev to come through though.
