Stefanos Tsitsipas v Mikhail Kukushkin Head to Head

The two men have met twice before, both last year, firstly on the hard courts of Dubai, and then on the clay of Rome. Tsitsipas has won both encounters, but not without a struggle. Each match went to three sets, and, despite the disparity in their world rankings, Kukushkin pushed the Greek close in both matches.

Tsitsipas – Looking for Second Senior ATP Title

Tsitsipas will be confident that he is on the verge of adding another senior ATP title to the one that he won at the Stockholm Open last year. If he does so then he will show signs of starting to realise the potential that he showed in reaching the semi-final of the Australian Open last month.

Having defeated David Goffin 7-6, 6-2 in his semi-final on Saturday, he will be tempted to feel that he has already done the hard work, and that he is ranked more than 800 places above his opponent on Sunday.

However, he would do to remember last year’s matches with Kukushkin – nothing should be taken for granted.

Kukushkin – Enjoying a Week to Remember

Kukushkin has enjoyed one of the most memorable weeks of his career. Ranked now down at 840 in the World Rankings, he only gained admittance to the first round draw in Marseille as a “Lucky Loser”.

Yet he has battled his way through four rounds, putting out along the way Denis Shapovalov of Canada and Andrey Rublev of Russia, before defeating Ugo Humbert in straight sets in their semi-final on Saturday evening.

In has been four years since his last ATP final and more than eight since his solitary senior title which came in St. Petersburg in 2010. Whatever happens on Sunday afternoon will be a bonus for him.

Tsitsipas v Kukushkin Predictions & Tips

Unsurprisingly, Tsitsipas will start odds-on favourite on Sunday, with bookmakers offering 2/7 the win. Kukushkin is 14/5 (bet365) as befits his underdog status, but do not be surprised if he makes his young Greek opponent work hard if he wants to win the title.
