Alex De Minaur v Benjamin Bonzi Head to Head

Alex De Minaur leads Benjamin Bonzi 2-1 in their head-to-head meetings. The Australian won both meetings during the course of 2022 season.

De Minaur Overcomes Stubborn Mannarino

Alex De Minaur is still standing at the 2023 Australian Open, and the home favorite produced a gutsy win over France’s Adrian Mannarino to reach the third round.

On a day when countryman Alexei Popyrin shocked Taylor Fritz, De Minaur swiftly joined his compatriot, holding Mannarino’s momentary fightback to win 7-6 4-6 6-4 6-1.

Just as the scoreline suggests, there was little to separate the pair in the best of three sets, but De Minaur stepped up his level in the fourth set as a fatigued Mannarino was outpaced by the tireless Aussie.

De Minaur hit 36 winners, but will need to cut down on his unforced error which hit 42, although he converted six of nine break points.

De Minaur is now one round away from advancing into the second week of his home major for the second year in a row. Will he avoid a potential upset against big-hitting Benjamin Bonzi?

Bonzi Stuns Carreno Busta

In one of the most memorable comebacks of this year’s Australian Open, France’s Benjamin Bonzi came back from the brink to stun 14th seed Pablo Carreno Busta and booked his spot in the third round.

The 26-year-old Bonzi, against all the odds, won 4-6 4-6 7-6 6-1 7-6 in just over four hours, and fell to the turf when Carreno Busta netted the final forehand in front of a jam-packed Court 8.

Bonzi trailed 2-0 in sets, and saved a break point in game 11 of the third set before prevailing in the tiebreak. The comeback was well and truly on from that moment, sweeping to take the fourth. The Frenchman who reached his first ATP final a few weeks ago, dominated the 10-point tiebreak to clinch one of the best wins of his career.

Bonzi had never scaled the second-round before at Grand Slam singles competition. But his latest win is a stark reminder that he is steadily rising in the rankings.

De Minaur v Bonzi Prediction and Tip

By virtue of his stunning win over Carreno Busta, this is now the Frenchman’s best result at Grand Slam level. But it would take another herculean effort to repeat the trick. De Minaur should have the backing of the home crowd to reach the second week again.
