Stefanos Tsitsipas v Jannik Sinner
The best match of the day will be played between Sinner and Tsitsipas. Both have played really well so far so who is going to win this one?
Well, the odds favour Tsitsipas quite a bit and he’s had far more success in the matchup so far. The H2H is 4-1 for Tsitsipas but the majority of those matches were played on clay courts. On hard, it’s a bit more different because Sinner can use his power and aggression more.
Won’t matter much in this one because the match will be played late at night in very wet and slow conditions making Tsitsipas a bit more likely to have success. Sinner will have time to set up his shots but hitting them is another matter.
He’s already shown that he can miss for a long time against Fucsovics and if he repeats that against Tsitsipas it will be trouble.
I do think Sinner wins a set but I don’t think he can win a match. Not at night.

Coco Gauff v Jelena Ostapenko
Another interesting matchup will be between Gauff and Ostapenko. It seems likely that Gauff wins that match but she could also lose.
One way to beat Gauff is to simply hit so well that her game falls apart. It rarely happens but it can be done. Paula Badosa and Caroline Garcia both showed it’s possible last year. Ostpaenko can do that but she’ll need to be at her absolute best.
She won’t do many long rallies with Gauff and will probably be very frustrated with the American most of the time so that makes it less likely that she will actually hit consistently throughout the match.
Even so, we don’t see Gauff running away with this. It should be close and competitive as Ostapenko will certainly have her rhythm at one point in the match.

Felix Auger-Aliassime v Jiri Lehecka
This matchup promises many aces and it should definitely be interesting. Lehecka has shown some incredible tennis so far in Australia and when his forehand and serve are clicking the way he is, it’s always going to be close. Auger-Aliassime was more of a mix between good and bad.
He showed some promise but also some bad moments so it’s kind of hard to know what to expect. This is a matchup he can certainly lose as he never played him and Lehecka really doesn’t give you much. It will probably come down to how well he plays.
If he brings his best, it could certainly be very interesting. Auger-Aliassime is the heavy favourite to win this one but I don’t expect it to come easy.
The more likely scenario is that he’ll win but drop a set, or two. It’s a risky play but it has tremendous value compared to what else is on offer.
