Caroline Garcia v Magda Linette Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2017 Strasbourg Open on clay and Garcia had won that match in straight sets.

Garcia Makes Round Four after a While

After having not made it past the third round at the Australian Open since 2018, Garcia is finally back in round four and she did that by the dint of a fighting win over Laura Siegemund.

Garcia wasn’t expected to be thwarted by the 6/1 underdog Siegemund but after she managed to win just one game in the opening set things had suddenly become very difficult for the world number four.

For the first five games of the second set things went on serve, but in the sixth it was Garcia who found a way to break her opponent’s serve.

The pair exchanged breaks in the first two games of the third set too, but Garcia had the momentum by now and she got the better of Siegemund’s serve in the seventh and ninth game to finish off the encounter.

This followed straight-set wins over Katherine Sebov and Leylah Fernandez in the first two rounds; can Garcia now make it to back to back quarterfinals in majors having also done last at the 2022 US Open?

Linette Takes United Cup Form Forward

Linette had already taken on Anett Kontaveit from the tournament in the second round and come the third round, it was the turn of Ekaterina Alexandrova to face the Polish magic.

And Alexandrova struggled to do that as Linette carved out a 6-3, 6-4 win over the Russian to move into the fourth round for the first time. She needed an hour and 17 minutes to get there.

Ranked 45th in the world and with wins over Jil Teichmann and Lucia Bronzetti at the United Cup before this, Linette came back from a break down in the first set to usurp Alexandrova’s serve on four occasions. She was broken once again in the eighth game of the second set but Linette held on to her serve to win it off her third match-point.

Now up against Garcia, Linette will have to do a lot better than her 16 winners as she hopes to take the initiative away from the world number four.

Garcia v Linette Prediction and Tips

Garcia will be a favourite here with an offer of 1/3 for her win 8/11 for a straight-set victory. Backing Garcia to do just that.
