Anna Blinkova v Erika Andreeva Head to Head

Andreeva leads by 2-0. Both those wins came in 2022 – the most recent being in the Bronx Open, where Blinkova was beaten 4-6, 4-6.

Andreeva Looking for Some Rhythm

18-year-old Erika Andreeva has had a dull start to the season. In Lyon, she will look to take things up a notch and get back to her winning ways.

It’s been quite some time since she bagged a main-draw WTA win; her last victory in such an event came in the Laussane Open last July against none other than Blinkova 6-1, 6-2. However, she fell to Petra Martic in the next round.

Since then, the youngster has competed in numerous tournaments on all circuits. Her best results came on the ITF Tour in the form of semifinal appearances in Spain and the Bronx.

In 2023, Andreeva competed in two ITF events but couldn’t make it past the opening rounds – the last such instance being in Andrezieux-Boutheon last week. In the Aus Open, she fell in the final qualifying round to Sara Bejlek.

Here in Lyon, the current #134 began as a qualifier and defeated Viktoriya Tomova and Diane Parry to reach the main round.

Blinkova Poised to Impress

Anna Blinkova, current World No. 64, has had an eventful start to the year with plenty of positives.

Her highlight is definitely the semifinal sprint in Hobart, where, as a qualifier, she dispatched Marie Bouzkova, Lucia Bronzetti, and Yulia Putintseva in straight sets. It was only her second WTA semifinal in the last 12 months, but something tells us many more will come.

Of course, the 24-year-old is not perfect by any means – she has her work cut out.

That semifinal showing in Hobart was followed by a three-set defeat to Madison Keys in the Australian Open first round, but credit where it’s due, she did well to take a set off the American.

Blinkova enjoyed a good spell in 2022, reaching three ITF finals and bagging her first WTA title.

Andreeva v Blinkova Prediction and Tip

Blinkova is the odds-on favourite, but seeing that she has lost to Andreeva twice already, she will be at a psychological disadvantage. At 11/8, Andreeva makes for a good underdog bet – especially since the chances of an upset here are much higher.
