Cameron Norrie v Nicolas Barrientos Head to Head

Norrie and Barrientos have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Norrie 8-2 This Season

It’s been a steady start from Norrie this season but he would have definitely liked to do better than what he managed at the Australian Open.

After defeating Alex de Minaur and then shocking Rafael Nadal and Taylor Fritz at the United Cup, Norrie reached the final of the Auckland Open in the second tournament he played this year.

A defeat at the hands of Richard Gasquet was a surprise, sure, but one could have put that down to Norrie having one eye on the big prize – the Australian Open.

A couple of wins there took him to the third round but then came a surprise loss at the hands of Jiri Lehecka, leaving him a bit underwhelmed in all probabilities.

Norrie, who is 5-5 in career Davis Cup matches, shouldn’t have too many difficulties against a player ranked outside the top 500 at the moment though.

Barrientos Hasn’t Played This Season

More than a month into the season and Barrientos hasn’t played a match so far. In fact the Colombian last took to court in October when he played in a Challenger competition while his last win at any level came in the Davis Cup in September 2022.

Making his debut in this competition, Barrientos had overcome Turkey’s Yanki Erel in straight sets there.

Other than that though, Barrientos has struggled to get going even at the Challenger level in recent times. Take the case of 2022 where the Colombian last won a main draw match in a Challenger tournament in April.

The only thing going in his favour here is Barrientos loves playing on clay which isn’t quite Norrie’s most favourite surface. Still, given the disparity in the two players’ pedigree, this surface advantage might not make for too much of a difference.

Norrie v Barrientos Prediction and Tip

Norrie is 1/16 to win this and 3/10 to do that in straight sets. That’s our bet but the big question is if Norrie will be match-ready for clay and if the home advantage could amount to something for the Colombian. We think the games handicap sounds like a decent option here.
