Caroline Garcia v Camila Osorio Head to Head

This will be a first meeting between the two.

Garcia Stays Perfect Against Paolini

Top seed Caroline Garcia kept her perfect record against Jasmine Paolini intact after she knocked out the Italian 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinal on Friday.

Garcia served 9 aces, saved 2 of 3 break points and converted 3 of 7 to extend her head-to-head record against Paolini to 4-0. What’s more, all of the Frenchwoman’s wins have come in straight sets.

The world no. 5 was also a semifinalist in Lyon last year, but she failed to make it to the final. This year, she has good chance of not just reaching the final, but also winning it on Sunday.

Garcia has 11 titles from 14 finals. She won all four of her finals last year, including the WTA Finals title, and ended the season with a remarkable 47-22 record.

She has carried that form to 2023 and is 9-2 so far in the season. Garcia won both her matches at the United Cup, reached the last eight in Adelaide-2 and made it to the Round of 16 at the Australian Open.

In Lyon, she started with a straight sets win over Tereza Martincova in the first round, and then rallied past Alison Van Uytvanck in a strange second round contest, in which the Belgian took the first set, but was blown away in the next two. Garcia was solid in the quarterfinal against Paolini and she is expected to keep the momentum going on Saturday.

Osorio Battles Past Noskova

Facing Garcia in the semifinal will be 21-year-old Colombian, Camila Osorio, who topped 18-year-old qualifier, Linda Noskova, in a hard-fought battle on Friday.

Osorio conceded a break in the fourth game of the first set to fall behind 1-4, but she found her way back in the set and broke the Czech not once, but twice, to take a one-set-to-love lead.

The second set began with three consecutive breaks of serve, with Osorio taking a 2-1 lead. Noskova pulled the break back to level the set at 4-4, before Osorio broke again to lead 6-5. The Czech wasn’t prepared to go down easily and she broke back to force the tiebreak. It was a neck-and-neck tiebreak for a while, before the world no. 73 raced to a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory.

Osorio, who had beaten the third seed Alize Cornet in a three-set opening round contest, had needed just two sets to dispatch Germany’s Jule Niemeier in the round of 16.

The Colombian is aiming to reach a fourth WTA final. She won the title in Bogota in 2021 and then finished runner-up in Tenerife the same year. In 2022, she made it to the summit clash in Monterrey and also reached the final four in Bogota, but the rest of the season was an ordinary one for her.

She is off to a 4-1 start in 2023. Can she improve that record on Saturday?

Garcia v Osorio Prediction and Tip

Garcia is the in-form player. The top seed also has far more experience than her Saturday’s opponent. With Osorio also playing well, this match may go the distance.
