Caroline Garcia v Alycia Parks Head to Head

Garcia won their only meeting at a qualifying round in Cincinnati in 2021. That was a three-set match.

Garcia Too Strong for Osorio

World no. 5 Caroline Garcia scored a crushing win over Camila Osorio in the semifinal in Lyon on Saturday.

The top seed saved all four break points that she faced in the match and broke the Colombian twice each in both the sets to win the match 6-2, 6-2 and reach her first final in Lyon.

The 2022 WTA Finals winner has an 11-3 record in finals, and was 4-0 in the title clashes last year. The way she is playing right now, there is a very high possibility of her claiming her 12th WTA title on Sunday.

Garcia improved her 2023 record to 10-2 following Saturday’s victory.

The 29-year-old began her Lyon Open campaign with a straight sets win over Tereza Martincova in the first round. She then overcame a slow start before demolishing Alison Van Uytvanck in the second round. Garcia had lost the first set to the Belgian, but made a resounding comeback to win 2-6, 6-0, 6-1.

Garcia then edged out Jasmine Paolin 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinal.

On Saturday, Garcia dominated Osorio from start to finish to continue her charge towards the title.

Parks Edges Zanevska in a Seesaw Battle

Alycia Parks served 13 aces and 35 winners in yet another aggressive performance on Saturday to knock out Maryna Zanevska in the semifinal of the Lyon Open and reach her first ever WTA final.

The American has been in stunning form over the last couple of months, improving to 15-1 from her last 16 matches. Parks won her first two WTA 125 titles in Andorra and Angers in December and is now in her maiden WTA Tour final.

Playing in her first ever tour-level semifinal on Saturday, Parks raced to a 3-0 lead in the first set and then got a second break to lead 5-1. She failed to convert four set points in the next game as the Belgian pulled a break back, but held her next serve to take the opening set.

The second set was a cat and mouse affair. Both players traded a break in the middle of the set, then Parks broke a second time to lead 5-4, but squandered two match points in the next game as Zanevska drew level at 5-5.

Zanevska held serve next game, and was up 15-40 in Parks’ next service game, but Parks saved both the set points to force the tiebreak. The World no. 79 eventually edged the tiebreak and clinched the contest 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

The win was Parks’ second straight sets win in a row. She had begun the campaign with back-to-back three set victories over Julia Grabher and fourth seed Petra Martic in the first two rounds respectively and then took out the seventh seed Danka Kovinić in the quarterfinal, beating the Montenegrin 7-5, 6-2.

Can the 22-year-old stun the no. 1 seed and win her maiden title on Sunday?

Garcia v Parks Prediction and Tip

This is expected to be a very close contest. Garcia is the top seed, has been in fine form over the last one year and has a lot more experience than Parks, who will be playing in her first final. Parks is in tremendous form as well and will test the top seed, but eventually the Frenchwoman should come out on top.
