While Giorgi is facing a few questions off the court, her on-court results have been a bit of a mixed bag.
It started with a qualifying defeat in the Adelaide International 2 in what was her first tournament of the season but she looked to have put that behind her at the Australian Open.
First she routed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round before overcoming Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the second. It took the might of Belinda Bencic to down her in the third but not before Giorgi had given the Swiss number one a fight.
With that confidence under her belt, Giorgi would have hoped to do a lot better at the Lyon Open last week but for the second time in three tournaments, she fell in the qualifiers.
This time around, it was Katie Swan who sent her packing 6-1, 6-3.

Cristian Forced to Play on the ITF Circuit
Only last year, Cristian had climbed up to 58th in the world after having broken into the top 100 for the first time in her career the previous season.
Fast forward exactly 12 months on and Cristian is on the verge of getting knocked out of the top 200 on the WTA charts after missing out six months of tennis action last season. It was a knee injury that had derailed Cristian’s career and since coming back in August 2022, she has barely been the same player.
Other than winning an ITF title that month, her record read a woeful 2-9 across all circuits and levels.
And it’s continued this season too with her inability to win a single main draw match at Auckland, Hobart or the Australian Open.
It needed her to shift to ITF circuit yet again for Cristian to win one – she made it to the quarterfinals of the Porto 4 ITF tournament – but can she replicate that against Giorgi?
