Roger Federer v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

The two players have met once on the ATP circuit, at the 2018 Australian Open. The Hungarian was able to hang in with Federer for the first two sets, before losing in straight sets.

Federer Still in Search for Routine Win

Roger Federer’s 2019 Dubai campaign thus far has been two hard fought three set victories, against Philipp Kohlschreiber and Fernando Verdasco. Federer has a perfect record against both and while he maintained that, it was not without a second set struggle in both.

In identical fashion, both matches started with Federer strong on serve and winning the opening set with one break of serve. The second set on both occasions did not start well for the Swiss, with him getting broken early and eventually losing the set.

Federer was able to stay ahead in the third and find the right opportunity to break in both matches, winning in three sets.

With his eyes on a 100th ATP title, there is the possibility of back to back matches through Saturday, and Federer will hope for a more routine and consistent performance in his quarter-finals, giving him the much needed confidence and rest going into the weekend. While no particular aspect of his game has looked off this week, he will be hoping for a better all-round performance from himself.

Does Fucsovics Have a Chance to Upset The Maestro?

Hungarian Marton Fucsovics has been on the ATP circuit for about three years and a bit, but has gone from strength to strength in the last 12 months. The Hungarian reached a career high ranking of number 35 on the ATP circuit earlier this year and is currently ranked number 38.

Fucsovics won his first ATP title in 2018 at the Geneva Open and lost in the finals of the ATP 250 at Sofia earlier this month, to Daniil Medvedev. With a strong all round game, that has evolved in the last year, Fucsovics has proven to be a force to reckon with on the hard courts this season.

The Hungarian has had convincing straight set victories against Damir Dzumhur and Jan-Lennard Struff in the first two rounds here and will now be looking for what maybe the biggest win of his career, against Roger Federer.

Roger Federer v Marton Fucsovics Predictions & Tips

Fucsovics has had a convincing previous round win and will be looking for a strong start to his quarter final, on these hard courts. Although Federer has looked rusty at times, he is in the quarter finals and no one knows how to step up the game better than him in the latter stages of a tournament. Expect a good match between the two, but this time Federer does not have a second set lapse and wins in two sets.
