Albert Ramos-Vinolas v Roberto Carballes Baena Head to Head

The pair have played each other six times before, and Ramos-Vinolas leads their head to head record by four matches to two.

Carballes Baena won their one match on hard courts at Winston Salem in 2018, and he also defeated his compatriot on clay in the final in Quito earlier that same year,

Ramos-Vinolas has won all their other clay court matches, although they have not faced each other since 2019.

Cordoba Quarter-Finalist Ramos-Vinolas

Last week Ramos-Vinolas was defending the title that he won in Cordoba last year, but he could not manage it, falling at the quarter-final hurdle this time, beaten in straight sets by the Argentine, Federico Coria.

It means that he must wait another week, at least, before adding to his tally of four senior career titles, all of them on clay.

However, that run in Cordoba at least ended his losing streak on the main tour that had extended back to his defeat in the US Open last August.

That sequence had included all the matches he had played in 2023 prior to arriving in Argentina.

Drafted by Spain into the United Cup as a replacement for Pablo Carreno-Busta, he lost both his singles matches in that competition.

And he followed that up with first round defeats to John Millman in Adelaide and Maxime Cressy at the Australian Open, although he did at least take a set off the American.

Carballes Baena Looking for Second Win of the Year

That victory over Ramos-Vinolas remains the only senior singles tournament that Carballes-Baena has enjoyed in his career, although he did win the doubles in Chile three years ago.

He has, though, enjoyed more recent success on the Challenger tour and reached four finals in 2022, winning two of them, in Tunis, and on home soil in Sevilla.

That brought his Challenger title tally to ten, all of them coming on clay.

This will be his fourth event of the year, and he is searching for his second win, the first coming in the opening round in Pune, where he defeated another Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles.

However, he then lost to Marin Cilic, and his Australian Open campaign ended at the first round stage, although he did have the excuse of being drawn against the eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

Last week in Cordoba, Zapata Miralles got his revenge for that Pune defeat, beating him in three sets in their first round match.

Ramos-Vinolas v Carballes Baena Prediction and Tip

Based on their head to head record, and their form in Cordoba last week, Ramos-Vinolas will begin the favourite in this all Spanish clash, but it could be a close contest.
