Sebastian Baez v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

These two faced off in the first round of the 2022 French Open where Baez had won in four sets to progress forward.

Baez Coming off Cordoba Title Win

Baez is one of the better clay court players among those outside the top 30 on the rankings and he showed it yet again by winning his second career title on that surface.

The Argentine, who had a first round bye in Cordoba, overcame Luciano Darderi and Marcelo Barrios Vera in the next two rounds before crushing Hugo Dellien in the semifinal. And while he started off a favourite against fellow countryman Federico Coria in the title-decider, one always knew things wouldn’t go easy.

That’s exactly what happened as Baez needed three sets and an hour and 52 minutes to get past Coria to add to the Estoril Open tournament victory from last season.

He starts things off as one of the players to watch out in Buenos Aires, and another solid performance here could help the Argentine close in on his career-best ranking of 31st.

Lajovic Comes Through the Qualifiers

Lajovic, like Baez, is a clay court specialist and hadn’t made any kind of a decent start to the season during the Australian Open swing.

The Serb lost in the qualifying round of the Auckland Open and was sent packing by Denis Shapovalov in the opening round of the Australian Open before turning his focus to the Golden Swing.

Playing at Cordoba, Lajovic finally registered his maiden win of the season as he overcame Juan Pablo Varillas in his opener but then fell to Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second round.

Here in Buenos Aires, Lajovic has had to come through the qualifiers, winning both in straight sets, but faces a rather difficult opponent first up. Lajovic’s only hope is for Baez to have difficulties in transitioning between Cordoba Open and this tournament given he played in the final on Sunday.

Still, does Lajovic has the ammunition to get the better of his opponent?

Baez v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Baez is 1/2 to win this and we will have to go with that despite the obvious concerns of making a quick switch between the two tournaments. Might see Lajovic put up a fight though.
