Giron, who is gunning for a return to his career-best ranking of 49th in the world, will now face a player who had never won a competitive match at the highest level before this competition. That could make things slightly easier for Giron.

Pecotic Fairy Tale Continues with Sock Win
It would be interesting to see how far Pecotic goes. Not just in this tournament but also in his tennis career. Because stories like Pecotic are rare in sports and need to be told and re-told to those who think their dream is over.
Pecotic, who had met with a series of unfortunate incidents that made it improbable for his tennis career to take off, finally managed to win a match at the highest level. Irrespective of what happens from here on, Pecotic, whose full-time job title is Director of Capital Markets for a real estate investment company, will end his tennis career with a win under his belt.
And that came in the first round here, when he defeated Jack Sock 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in two hours and 11 minutes.
The Croat was an alternate in the qualifiers and it was only when one of the players withdrew from the qualifiers that he got his chance to make it to that stage.
He overcame Stefan Kozlov in the qualifying opener after Kozlov retired from the match but then overcame a first set deficit against Tennys Sandgren to enter the main draw.
Pecotic might not have expected to win his opener Sock but in his own words, he didn’t go into the match expecting to lose either. He gave it his all and with his corporate boss watching from the stands, the win would have tasted even sweeter.
