Barrere Dispels Goffin
While David Goffin was a 7/10 favourite to get past Greogire Barrere in the first round, by the time he had settled in in the contest, he was already a set down. Very soon he was to go 4-2 down in the second set too but it would take Barrere a second set tie-breaker to come through.
Barrere won 6-0, 7-6 (3) in the end to march into the second round of the contest in a tournament he has faced just once before. That had come in the 2020 edition where Barrere had been knocked out in the opening round.
This season, Barrere has already won a title at the Quimper Challenger which was also held indoors and made the quarterfinal of the Montpellier Open.
In this tournament, he needed to go past a couple of players in the qualifiers to make the main draw where he has extended his winning run to three matches with this victory over Goffin.
