Iga Swiatek v Belinda Bencic Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Swiatek leads 2-1 on head to head. This includes their meeting at the United Cup earlier this year where Swiatek won in straight sets.

Swiatek Disposes off Collins

Swiatek had spoken about being practical as opposed to being perfect heading into this tournament, implying she might not win everything but would like to remain consistent.

But perfect she was in her opener against Danielle Collins with the world number one using up a mere 54 minutes on court in her 6-0, 6-1 rout of her American opponent.

The Polish player faced no break-points in the entire match, breaking her opponent five times in the process while winning 72% of the points on her serve. Collins won just 28% of them!

This was Swiatek’s first match since her untimely exit from the Australian Open where she was sent out in the fourth round by Elena Rybakina. She will hope she can turn that result around here in Doha, the tournament where she won the first of her eight titles last season.

Bencic Scrapes Past Azarenka

Bencic looked gone for all money in her second round match against Victoria Azarenka, falling a set behind and then having her serve broken two times in a row. Azarenka served for a 5-1 lead in the second set when things changed.

From being 1-6, 1-4 down in the match, Bencic found a way to back and win the second set in a tie-breaker and edge past Azarenka 6-4 in the third. The match lasted two hours and 45 minutes and for moments after the encounter, Azarenka would have wondered what went wrong for her.

What was interesting about the deciding set was Bencic broke Azarenka in the very first game and following that moment on, there was no break-point for either player.

Interestingly, this follows Bencic’s own 6-0, 6-1 win over Viktoria Tomova in the opening round, a result not too dissimilar from Swiatek’s opener here. A bit of a difference in the opposition pedigree for sure though.

Can Blinkova now turn things around against Swiatek?

Swiatek v Bencic Prediction and Tip

It could be the case of another straight-set win for Swiatek who looked invincible in her second round win. Can Bencic find a way to make things difficult for the world number one?
