Jannik Sinner v Stan Wawrinka Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these players and Wawrinka leads 2-1. The first two matches, in 2019, went in favour of Wawrinka before Sinner got one back in 2022 at Wimbledon.

Wawrinka Has No Problems against Gasquet

For the first time since ATP Basel held last year in October, Wawrinka won back to back matches in a competition to enter the quarterfinal.

And speaking of successive straight-set wins, which is what Wawrinka has achieved here, one has to cast one’s mind as far back as to January 2020.

After having gotten past Alexander Bublik in the first round, Wawrinka faced no trouble in carving out a 6-3, 6-3 win over Richard Gasquet in the second round in a match lasting a mere hour and 17 minutes.

Wawrinka slammed 11 aces and did not face a single break-point in a match where he won 96% of his first serve points. In turn, he broke Gasquet three times, particularly attacking his second serve of which his opponent won just 47% of the points.

Things might not feel as easy come the quarterfinal given the pedigree of his opponent here but with Wawrinka’s experience and his recent exhibition of sparkle, he could give his opponent a keen fight.

Sinner Upsets Tsitsipas

Going into their second round match, Sinner had defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas just once from the previous six meetings. Tsitsipas had also come into the tournament on the back of a solid showing at the Australian Open where he reached the final with a win over Sinner in the tournament too.

Sinner ended Tsitsipas’ four-match winning streak against the Italian, who also registered his first win over a top three player, with his 6-4, 6-3 victory.

In a match that lasted a mere hour and 22 minutes, Sinner did not face a single break-point while demolishing his opponent’s serve on three occasions in the match.

The world number 14 won 89% of his first serve point and a whopping 76% of the second to make it through to the last eight. Earlier he had overcome Benjamin Bonzi in the first round.

Can he now overturn his negative record against Wawrinka?

Sinner v Wawrinka Prediction and Tip

While Wawrinka has a 2-1 head to head record against Sinner, his wins came at a time when the Italian was finding his feet at the highest level. Here, Sinner starts off a 1/4 favourite and we will have to back those odds.
